 Cricket in Corfu island has a centenary tradition. Today there are in Corfu island four different clubs that hand on the passion for this ancient sport. The first cricket match in Corfu was played in 1823 between English Army and the Royal Navy. After that local people start to become crazy for this game and first they challenged the English team, then they created two local teams on the island. With the passing of the time the number of cricket team in Corfu start to grow up. Today they organise tournaments every summer, and in September there’s an important cricket festival that see on Corfu island also a team from England and one from Malta.
 In Corfu there are two different cricket play grounds. The famous one for its stunning position is the field placed in the centre of Esplanade, in the middle of the old town of Kerkyra, and is used only for special events. The other one is placed in Kontokali Marina, it’s new and here they play more than 100 games every year. This one is available for tourists that wants try to play this sport.
In 1996 evolved in Corfu the Greek Cricket Federation (GCF) which is a member of the European Cricket Council. The GCF also largely contributed for the right cricket equipment to be bought. The teams existing now in Greece are 15. 13 of them are in Corfu ( Feax CC, Byron CC Gymnastikos CC, Achilleas CC, Kerkyra CC, GEK CC, Ergatikos CC, Naysithoos CC, Laodamas CC, Dekathlo CC, Atlas CC, KEF CC, Tennis Academy CC ), Alkinoos CC in Athens and Thessaloniki CC in Thessaloniki. The GCF is trying to evolve cricket clubs and in other places in Greece. The matches between Championships and Cups that take place every year, together with the visits of foreign teams (mostly English) are over a hundred. GREEK CRICKET FEDERATION
